Forest City Continues Development of Central Station Chicago Lofts
Forest City Enterprises is selling Chicago lofts in six new buildings currently under construction near Grant Park. The Central Station development’s tall buildings continue to help define the edges of Grant Park, and fill the gaps in the south lakefront skyline with some of the most luxurious Chicago real estate available.
The development’s namesake, a train depot demolished in 1893, used to overlook this site from the corner of Grant Park. It was the entry-point for many people who came from the south seeking Chicago homes.
Central Station began development around 1990 with several rows of luxury Chicago townhouses, which have often been compared to the residential neighborhoods of London. The first high-rise Chicago property in the project began construction in November 2000. Many more are under construction or planned, with six Chicago properties offering units for sale in 2005-2006.
Central Station's most famous resident is mayor Richard M. Daley, who moved from his Chicago property in Bridgeport into one of the townhomes.
